Dear Lakewood Family and Friends,
Wednesday dinner and programs start again this evening! We took a break for the Christmas/New Year holiday, and I’m excited that we’re back to this regular Wednesday evening schedule again now. Dinner begins at 5:15, and you can’t beat the price for an excellent meal prepared by Chef Ron Soberay and his faithful crew of dedicated volunteers.
Carol Hudson continues to teach her Feasting In The Word Bible study from 4:00-5:30 in the library, currently studying 2nd Kings, 1st & 2nd Chronicles. And Eric Williams continues to teach the Disciple Bible Study in the library after dinner.
Tonight we begin two new classes.
1. For those who are reading through the Bible this year, Nettie Cribb will be leading a discussion about the readings for the week and dealing with questions you may be having. That begins at 6:15 in room 202 upstairs in the Christian Activity Center.
2. Coordinating with the Outlive Your Life 4-week Sunday morning sermon series, Melanie Evans will be leading a DVD teaching by Max Lucado followed by small group discussion. That also begins at 6:15 and will be held in the dining room of the Christian Activity Center.
If you know of men who struggle with issues of hurts, habits and hangups, please let them know of the new Celebrate Recovery men’s group that will begin on Sunday, January 29, from 3:00-4:30. Contact Mark Biery (733-3057) or Mark Clayburg (262-8267) for more information.
Be sure to put on your calendar that this year’s JUST BE IT Sunday will be on February 12. We will meet in the sanctuary at 8:00am for a brief time of worship, then will head out to the work projects. There are 7 sites this year, and we will need a full crew of volunteers! Last year we had about 300 of you involved, and this year we’ll need even more! Sign-up begins this Sunday morning (January 22).
This Sunday in Worship Continuing the OUTLIVE YOUR LIFE series that started last Sunday, the message this Sunday is The Poor as Priority. The Scripture will be Luke 4:14-21, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.”
This is also Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, and we are privileged to have Judy Weber, the Chief Executive Officer of First Coast Women’s Services to speak briefly about the excellent ministry they have with women and their families dealing with unplanned pregnancies. Testify will be leading the music, a Ladies Trio will sing, and Susie Chapman will bring the children’s message.
In the 1510 worship service, the message this Sunday will be about the story of Joseph in the Old Testament as they follow the readings of the Chronological Bible. That service is held every Sunday at 8:30 upstairs in the Education Building.
Be sure to check our church website (lakewoodumc.com) regularly if you have questions about coming events and programs.
I hope to see you at dinner and one of the studies this evening! Love and blessings to you all,
Bill Sherman
